How do we do it?

Lactic acid

We ferment whey, a byproduct of the dairy industry. This process transforms lactose into lactic acid.

Lactide

The obtained lactic acid is purified and subsequently polymerized to form lactide, a cyclic compound.

Polylactic Acid (PLA)

Lactide is polymerized to form chains of polylactic acid (PLA), which constitutes the biodegradable polymer.
